i have a Gretsch and i finally heard how it sounds from a crowd perspective. love it. I'm on my second Gretsch 7 piece Maple with red fade UV finish. The bass drum is loud as fuck, probably the loudest bass I've ever owned., it almost sounds miced at band practice. I was alittle weary of a standard 22x18 kick , my first thoughts was that such a boring size, I'd prefer a 20 x 22 but fuck it I'm happy with this kit. The mahogany shells of the toms sound better on the jazz kit though compared to maple, just deeper and warmer sounding. Also the double floor toms make me feel like a douche. Over all I'm pretty happy with my purchase. Gretsch makes some nice sounding kits. That Jazz kit I just sold has huge balls for being such a tiny set, wish I didn't have to sell it.

My apologies if this sounds accusatory, but this sounds like a ploy. Mahogany, which is typically just a drum company run around way of saying Luann, doesn't possess the enhanced acoustic capabilities that Maple does.
Tune it up dude, those maples own that Mahogany.
