The penny arcade was great back in the day. I really wish someone who had their shit together would open that place back up. If ran the right way it could be so legit, it had a prime location, and was just an awesome place to play. I sincerely hope it comes back someday. Steel was awesome too, lots of great memories there!
Does anyone remember the stage in scottsville? Not my favorite venue by any means but I grew up out there and I'm bummed I never played there

...........how? checklist: stage, sound, lights, bar, friends. thats a check I concur! If Waterstreet is terrible then what is a good show atmosphere in your opinion? Not trying to be a dick, just honestly curious. Different venues can appeal and better suit different shows. I'm sure and indie band would say they love the Bug Jar, and that it's the best venue and atmosphere. I personally hate playing there, the stage is so tiny, the bar is seperated from the stage. Then again, my band and the shows i play generally arn't the type that play at there. Doesn't mean it's terrible, just caters to a different genre better. Personally I'm just jazzed to play anywhere. I've played evrything from Waterstreet ,to floor shows, tiny stages in bars, basement shows, and even high school auditoriums or a barn in clifton springs. they all have their own charm to them and i enjoy switching it up As far as the whole waterstreet thing goes- my band can typically sell anywhere from 60-75 tickets for a show if were promoting aggressively for at least a month, sometimes even more. Now lets say there's three other bands, they each bring 20 to be modest, and each band had 5 members. right there youre at roughly 150 (if my math is correct). places like Dubland or Bugjar could not facilitate a show that large, no fucking way. The Clubside at Waterstreet is probably the best fit for a show that size. Plus the sound is usually decent, much better than it's ever been for me a dubalnd or bugjar. The only negatives i can truly associate with Waterstreet would be location being a bit ghetto, and lack of convenient parking.

I honestly think Montage Music Hall is way under-rated. Best sound system in Rochester IMO.

im late as fuck but i forgot this place existed for awhile with all the good stuff over at www.buffaloshows.net hahahah Anyways, fuck waterstreet. sure, they have the bells and whistles but that place is not for someone attending a show. its for the bands. and when people that have been going to shows longer then the majority of the security guards that work there and will continue to go to shows when they are no longer working there and are overstepping their boundaries, its not a show atendee friendly place. (my personal opinion is if kids stopped being pussies as a whole and when they see someone getting attacked, EVERYONE jump on that security guard and keep an eye on the rest of the security guards and lay them the fuck out, shit would stop.but thats just me)Hence why i havent gone to a show at waterstreet in so long, and why i think im still banned...? penny arcade is dead and gone and sure, we all have a million memories there but its gone and not coming back. so yeah, theres that. steel... fuck that place too... when you get handcuffed, get put on the other side were the night club is, then the security are overly violent towards you and threaten to beat the fuck out of you(youre in handcuffs)... again, not atendee friendly. Montage was dope back in the day, but itll never happen again as far hardcore/metal("metalcore") shows are concerned. shit happened, place got destroyed, security got annihilated on a regular basis, and randy has already said that bands like that will not ever play there so thats just out of the question. Flying Squirrel is fucking dope. no security, smaller place, big parking lot, and youre free to do what you want(within reason) so just dont act like an asshole. Dubland- whats not to love about that place. 2 bars, a stage, tv's, a place to go when you need a break for a min, a smoke patio, a floor to dance on, and after all the bullshit that has gone on there, they still let us have shows. i say respect dubland more. Bugjar- i say more shows there as well. although, from what im seeing, thats already starting to happen. the main thing that should be of peoples concern at a show is being able to see bands you wanna see, see your friends, have a good time, dance, be an asshole(within reason), and not have security in your way then go on some power trip. although, their should also be absolutely NO FIGHTING within the venue. you have beef, if its still worth it by the time youre across the street or around the corner, do what youve gotta do. with more Security Brutality, i think all venues would be alot more fun to go to shows at and draws would be bigger. theres my 2 cents. hahah

waterstreet has douchey security, shitty promoters, bad acoustics, an awesome bartender (that old dude, if he's still there) the fucking lights are retarded. it's not a fleetwood mac concert. and that check list is retarded. if thats all it takes then anyplace you mention is the fucking same.
also how bout this. if you have beef, quit acting like a douche bag and just let it go. meat head boners in gym shorts really turned hardcore into a fucking joke. more than kids with eyeliner and girls haircuts.

that old dude retired about 3 years ago, he was one of the coolest dudes i have ever had the pleasure of having a conversation with. hahaha he would get so pissed if you ordered a long island iced tea. i dunno as far as the checklist thingy goes. i guess u are correct in that anyplace that provides that is key. still doesnt change how i think about the place. its just a venue. we are what makes the difference at said shows. i just have tons of fun where ever i go and try my hardest to avoid problems. haha but anyone that knows me well enough know that i'm a fight magnet apparently. either way, i just wish there were more moderately sized venues that could provide a better atmosphere for metal/hardcore shows. every one is too hostile nowadays. security gaurds/show attendees. it all just escalates too a level of "i'll show him!" too quickly. blame who ever u want it wont end unless u end it first.

I love Dubland. Not the best sound, biggest stage or anything but for me it's more about the atmosphere than anything. I just get good vibes playing there.

i like to go to any venue were i dont have to worry about "tuff guys" who dont care about the music they just want to be assholes and ruin it for every one else. sorry but if you end up in cuffs at a show you sure as fuck were not there for the music.
